Drilling porcelain tiles!

One of the most common questions we get asked is regarding the drilling of very hard porcelain (grade 5). Over the last few years since the popularity and availability of hard materials such as porcelain and granite has increased dramatically this has become a problem area for a lot of Tilers / Plumbers.

We at Northants Tools decided to take a closer look into the problems people were having, and we have found that there are 2 real options when it comes to hole cutting they are Wet Cutting and Dry Cutting.

The first option Wet Cutting which does give the best results, but it is the slower of the two options and is a bit messy due to the water. We do many different Wet Cutters which vary on price. For the professional user who is looking to drill hundreds of holes we would recommend the Marcrist PG850 as this will give you the perfect cut and will give you the most life per cutter by far. For users who only need a few holes every now and again we stock an Economy Range starting from as little as £3.00 +vat, they still give a great finish with our breaking the bank.

The second option is Dry Cutting this is the fastest option available. With hole cutters starting at 5mm up to 120mm which is big enough to cut a soil pipe hole! With the average hole only taking 30 - 40 seconds to drill they really are quick, and with a life of 40+ holes you do get your moneys worth from them. We do two different brands one being Marcrist PG750X  and the other being our own Pro Tiler Tools both will give you a brilliant finish in super fast time.
